This is an original painting by Mr. Hooper of Nashville, Tennessee. This painting was inspired by the John Prine song "Paradise."

The central figure in this painting is a skeleton clad in overalls and a Sunday jacket. This fellow is floating down the Green River in a boat with a mandolin hung around him. I think of this skeletal figure as a ghost who haunts this area of Western Kentucky. He embodies the vast musical history that emerged from this area of the United States.

In the foreground you will see a fox with a guitar who appears to be writing a song. He is accompanied by a brown bunny. You might notice a revolver laying in the grass and on the opposite side of the painting broken Dr. Pepper bottles. One can imagine that someone was taking target practice at these bottles.

You will notice an oversized Cardinal peering out of a hollow tree. The Cardinal is the state bird of Kentucky.

In the background you will notice a buck standing in a cemetery. The buck is waving farewell to the skeletal figure. You'll see a raccoon with a fiddle who is trying to figure a way to cross the river and join up with his other musical companions. There is a post office and a couple of other buildings along this dirt road. Leaned against the post office is a large oversized shovel. Way in the distance is the paradise coal plant which is still operational today.

I suggest that anyone interested in this painting should listen to and read the lyrics of John Prine's song "Paradise" for greater understanding.
